
MacDonald Named First-Team Academic All-District III By ESPN The Magazine

BOILING SPRINGS Gardner-Webb utility man Nate MacDonald
was named ESPN the Magazine first-team Academic All-District III on
Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America
(CoSIDA).
MacDonald (Raleigh, N.C.) is the third GWU player in the past four
seasons to earn to the honor, joining former teammates Matt Maloney
(2006) and Sammy Styers (2004). He will now be eligible for a spot
on the 2007 ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America Team.
The senior standout has spent the majority of his time at first
base for the Diamond Dogs so far in 2007, batting a strong
.341 with two home runs, seven doubles and 12 RBI. MacDonald has
also appeared on the mound 14 times this season, forging a 3-2
record in 27.1 innings pitched with a team-high two
saves.
A Business Administration major, MacDonald has compiled a 3.78
cumulative grade point average during his time in the
classroom.
During his career at Gardner-Webb, MacDonald has made starts at
eight different positions. The only spots he hasn't started in are
at shortstop and centerfield.
MacDonald was named to the 2004 Atlantic Sun Conference
All-Freshman Team in his first season with the Diamond Dogs,
and has batted over .300 for his career.
