Gardner-Webb Men's Track And Field In First After First Day At A-Sun Championships

Johnson City, Tenn. – The Gardner-Webb men's track and field team picked up where it left off from last year's 2007 Atlantic Sun Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships behind a solid showing by its field athletes, including senior Cody MacArthur.
Jeremy Longshore and Elliott Haynie added a quick 18 points to the Bulldogs' total, finishing first and second, respectively, in the pole vault. Longshore's mark of 4.75m (15'7") in the event not only earned his team 10 points, but also moved him into sole possession of the A-Sun record in the event. Haynie took second with a vault of 4.60m (15'1").
Ten more points were credited to Gardner-Webb's account following a second place finish by Jake Didion and a fifth place finish by Bryant Davis in the long jump. Didion finished second in the event for the second consecutive years, falling to Campbell's Sam Tilly each time. Didion had a mark of 7.44m (24'5"). Bryant Davis earned a fifth-place finish with his effort of 6.65m (21'10").
Gardner-Webb continued its field event domination when MacArthur bested a field of 18 by over five meters. MacArthur won the event for the second consecutive season and added 4.02 meters to his A-Sun Championship meet record. His winning throw was 54.20m (177'10"). It also shattered the school record that he held.
In the 10,000m, Lucas McAneney recorded a seventh-place effort, scoring a point after crossing the line in 32:57.43.
At the conclusion of the first day, Gardner-Webb holds the lead with 49 points, followed by ETSU (31), Belmont (29), Campbell (22), Kennesaw State (20), and Lipscomb (4).
