Bulldog Men Finish Second At A-Sun Championship

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The Gardner-Webb men's track and field team could not overcome a strong performance by ETSU on the final day of the A-Sun Outdoor Championship and finished in second place with 148 total team points.
Cody MacArthur was named the Most Outstanding Field Performer after breaking two conference records – one in the hammer throw and the other in the discus. He won both events. In the discus, he had an effort of 49.75m (163'3"). Teammate Matt Knippen was sixth after a mark of 43.04m (141'2").
Jake Didion took the title in the triple jump after recording an effort of 15.41m (50'6.75"), establishing a meet record and an NCAA East Regional qualifying mark.
Didion also took second in the high jump after leaping 2.00m (6'6.75").
Jerel Langley went out there and posted a first-place showing in the javelin with his throw of 61.50m (201'9"). MacArthur was again solid in an event, this time coming in second with an effort of 51.75m (169'9").
Elliott Haynie, who finished second in the pole vault yesterday, took second-place honors in the decathlon with 5756 points, just nine behind the first-place competitor. Boris Gatzky was fourth while Justin Keziah was fifth in the event.
The Bulldogs went 2-3-4 in the 800m with Geoff Lesch-Wragge placing second with a time of 1:55.29. Charlie Steinke was third in 1:57.04 while Erin Goodrum placed fourth after crossing in 1:57.19.
In the 400m hurdles, Paul Steinke was runner-up in the contest after finishing in 54.73.
Tim Israel and Ryan McNeely each had third place finishes. Israel was third in the 1,500m while McNeely was third in the 400m.
Knippen had a solid performance in the shot put with his effort of 14.99m (49'2.50"), which etched his name fourth on the list.
