Bulldogs Announce 2007 Schedule

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Head men's soccer coach Tony Setzer, along with the athletics department, has announced the upcoming 2007 fall schedule.
The Bulldogs, who are the defending A-Sun champions, will play a very tough schedule, just as they did a season ago. The non-conference portion of the slate includes future Big South opponents and Atlantic Coast conference squads.
In 2007, GWU has but seven home matches out of 19 dates of competition. However, Bulldog fans will get to see some tremendous games from this year's team.
After a preseason exhibition at Appalachian State, GWU has two tough road matches to open the regular season. On opening night, the Bulldogs will be in High Point, N.C., to take on the Panthers of High Point. Two days later, GWU will have a rematch with its NCAA second-round opponent. The Bulldogs will play at Clemson, meeting the day before Labor Day at 7 p.m.
GWU's first home match will be against future Big South opponent Liberty on Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. After that, Setzer's squad hits the road for three matches. The Bulldogs will be in Rock Hill, S.C., on Sept. 14 and 15 for a tournament. There, GWU will square off against Radford Friday evening before facing the host Eagles of Winthrop on Saturday. On Wednesday Sept. 19, the Bulldogs will be in Lexington, Va., where they will match up against the Keydets of VMI.
The last match before opening the A-Sun portion of the schedule will come at Varsity Field. GWU will play host to Alabama A&M at 4 p.m. on Sept. 22.
The Bulldogs travel to Florida for the first time since winning the A-Sun conference at Stetson to kick off league play. On Sept. 28, GWU takes on Jacksonville at 4 p.m. Two days later, the squad will face North Florida at 1 p.m.
The following weekend the Bulldogs play their first home conference match. GWU takes on Belmont on Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. before hosting Lipscomb on Oct. 7 at 2 p.m.
After a non-conference tilt in Clinton, S.C., against Presbyterian on Oct. 11, the Bulldogs return to Varsity Field to play conference newcomer USC-Upstate. The match is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. on Oct. 14.
GWU then hits the road for the next two A-Sun matches. The Bulldogs travel to Campbell on Oct. 18 before playing their last conference road match at Mercer on Oct. 20.
The last two home matches for Setzer's team will come the following weekend. GWU hosts 2006 A-Sun finalist Stetson on Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. On Sunday, Oct. 28, the Bulldogs host A-Sun newcomer Florida Gulf Coast at 1:30 p.m.
Before beginning their final preparations for the A-Sun Tournament, the Bulldogs play two major in-state foes. On Oct. 31, the Bulldogs will attempt to knock off NC State in Raleigh, N.C. A week later, GWU will conclude its regular season in Asheville, N.C., against UNC Asheville.
The Bulldogs will attempt to win their second consecutive A-Sun
championship in their final season in the league and earn another
trip to the NCAA Tournament. The A-Sun Tournament begins Nov. 15
and concludes Nov. 17 in Deland, Fla.
