Bulldogs Drop 4-1 Decision To Appalachian State

BOONE, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb men's soccer team dropped a 4-1 at Appalachian State decision in its only exhibition match of the preseason Saturday evening.
The Bulldogs' lone goal was off the foot of Bradley Morrison after he received a pass from Eric Asanin-Miroux in the box in the 34th minute, tying the match at 1-1.
However, the Mountaineers added two quick goals in the 44th and 47th minute to put the game out of reach. ASU added the fourth goal of the match in the 71st minute on a penalty kick.
The match was played as three, 30-minute periods, instead of two 45-minute halves.
Nineteen players saw the pitch for head coach Tony Setzer's team, who played solid for much of the competition.
With the loss of 2006 goalkeeper Tyler Kettering to graduation, redshirt-junior Dane Geraci got the starting nod between the pipes. He played two periods and tallied three saves, but also gave up three goals. Rookie Trent Kozman played the final period and had a save while also allowing a goal.
GWU and ASU each compiled 13 shots, but ASU accounted for eight shots on goal while the Bulldogs could muster just four. Each team had two corner kicks.
For the match, 28 fouls were called – 18 of which went against the Red and Black.
GWU, the defending A-Sun champions, opens the season at High
Point on Aug. 31 at 7 p.m.
