Callahan And McAneney Shine At Western Carolina Invitational

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Lucas McAneney took home third place in the four-mile race while Abby Callahan took fifth in the two-mile event in the season opener for both teams at the Western Carolina Invitational.
The women took third overall while the men finished fourth in a meet that was delayed due to the weather.
Callahan completed the course in 12:29 as she was the only Bulldog to finish in the top 10. Newcomer Laura Scott and Beth Long took 12th and 13th, respectively as the duo finished just two seconds apart. Scott crossed the line in 13:25 while Long finished in 13:27.
Fellow rookie Diana Palka completed her first collegiate race in 13:54 to place 17th while Carrie Minard and Allye Littrell were right behind her in 18th and 19th, respectively. Minard had a time of 13:57 and Littrell crossed the line in 14:07.
On the men's side, McAneney took third with a solid time of 20:41. Joshua Hudson narrowly missed a top-10 performance, finishing 11th in a time of 21:29.
Alex Nimmo was 23rd after ending the run in 22:06. Charlest Steinke placed 29th in 22:48.
Tim Israel, Justin Keziah and Erin Goodrum all competed for GWU.
