Gardner-Webb Leads Poplar Hill Invitational After Second Round

FARMVILLE, Va. – Behind two Gardner-Webb golfers that are tied for second place and another in fifth, head coach Tee Burton's squad is in first place at the Poplar Hill Intercollegiate after two rounds of play.
The Bulldogs have compiled a two-round total of 573, which is 12 strokes better than the host Longwood Lancers, who stand in second with a total of 585.
Ryan Bell and Andrew Rickard have each shot a two-round total of 143, one-under par. Bell and Rickard each shot a 71 in the first round and a 72 in the second round.
Teammate Immu Korvenmaa is just one shot off his teammates' score. Korvenmaa posted a 73 in the opening round followed by a 71 in the second round, tallying a 144, even par.
Blake Palmer, who is coming off a solid 2007 spring season, is in 13th place. Palmer shot a four-over 76 in the first round. Palmer made a few good shots in the second round to record a one-under 71 for a 147 total.
Joshua Philbeck posted a two-round score of 148. Philbeck opened with an even-par 72 before shooting a four-over 76 in the second round. He is currently in 14th.
The Bulldogs will try to win their first tournament of the
season tomorrow during the final day of competition.
