Gardner-Webb In Fourth After First Round Of Draper Intercollegiate

BOONE, N.C. – After one round of play, the Gardner-Webb golf team stands in fourth place in the 15-team tournament – the Draper Intercollegiate - in Boone, N.C.
For the first round, GWU shot a +11, 299. The Bulldogs trail Winthrop and Charleston Southern, who each comprised a first-round tally of +4, 292.
Leading the way for the Bulldogs is Mackenzie Renner, who shot a one-over, 73. After opening the front nine with a 38, she managed to go one-under, 35 on the back nine. Renner is tied with four other athletes for sixth place, just four shots off the leader.
One stroke behind Renner is Katie Garahan. Garahan notched a two-over, 74 for the round. She is tied with seven other golfers for 11th place.
Just behind Garahan is Yayoi Garcia, who opened the first round with a three-over, 75. Garcia, who stands in 19th place, opened the front nine with a 39 before coming home in 36.
Rookie Liz Zouzal had a solid five-over, 77, in her first collegiate round of golf. She is currently tied for 34th.
Fellow first-year golfer Courtney Meyer comprised a first-round total of 80 in her collegiate debut. Meyer opened with a 37 on the front nine before finishing the back nine in 43.
The Bulldogs will look to move up in the standings in the final
round of competition, which will take place on Tuesday.
