
Bulldogs Open Season With Record-Setting Win At Poplar Hill Intercollegiate

FARMVILLE, Va. Up by only a few strokes heading into the last day of competition, the Gardner-Webb men's golf team came out on fire in the final round of play at the Poplar Hill Intercollegiate and buried the field, winning by 16 strokes.
The Bulldogs' three-round total of 869 (287-286-296) was a tournament record.
Ryan Bell and Brendan Madden (Duquesne) each shot a three-round total of (-3) 213. Forced into a playoff to determine the individual champion, each had a par on the first two playoff holes before Madden finished a stroke ahead of Bell on the third playoff hole.
Four strokes behind Bell in third place was Andrew Rickard. Rickard recorded a 71 and 72 the first two rounds before finishing with a 74 for a total of 217 on the 7,214-yard course.
Immu Korvenmaa tied for seventh with Presbyterian's Thomas Todd. Korvenmaa posted a 73-71-76 for a total of 220.
Blake Palmer and Joshua Philbeck tied for 14th after finishing with a 224 total for the tournament. Palmer shot a 76-71-77 while Philbeck's rounds consisted of 72-76-76.

21-23 at the Sea Trail Intercollegiate, which is hosted by
Elon.
