
Gardner-Webb Places Fifth At Draper Intercollegiate

BOONE, N.C. The Gardner-Webb women's golf team wrapped up its first tournament of the fall season by shooting a 299-306 (605) to finish fifth at the Draper Intercollegiate, which was hosted by Appalachian State.
GWU had a pair of Bulldogs in the top 10 as Yayoi Garcia placed eighth followed by Katie Garahan just one stroke behind her for ninth.
After posting a first-round score of 75, Garcia came back over the final 18 holes to record a 73 for a two-round total of 148. Garahan shot a 74-75 to finish at 149.
Rookie Liz Zouzal tied for 40th in her first collegiate meet by compiling a score of 156. Zouzal shot a first-round 77 followed by a 79 in the final round.
Mackenzie Renner was 45th, just one stroke behind Zouzal. Renner was stellar in the opening round, shooting a 73 before coming home with an 84 over the final 18 for a two-round total of 157.
Freshman Courtney Meyer improved by a stroke on the final 18 holes from the first round, tallying a score of 79 for the second round. Meyer shot a two-day score of 159.
The Bulldogs return to the links Sept. 21-23 when they travel to
Elon, N.C., for the Sea Trail Intercollegiate.
