Gardner-Webb To Name Football Field After Former Coach Norman Harris
September 26, 2007 | Football
BOILING SPRINGS - Gardner-Webb will name its football field after former coach Norman Harris, one of the founding fathers of the athletics program at GWU.
Sports writer Richard Walker details Harris' career at Gardner-Webb in an article posted on the Shelby Star's website. Click here to read the entire story.
From Wednesday's Shelby Star:
BOILING SPRINGS When Norman Harris came
to Gardner-Webb Junior College in 1949, the college had no lighted
facilities and a gymnasium that would be condemned three years
later.
So if Harris were still alive he died in 2003 he
would've been thrilled to know school officials were naming the
field at its recently-renovated state-of-the-art football facility
after him. He also would've been pleased to see an impressive
basketball arena a few hundred yards away and hear that future
college building plans call for a new Bulldogs' baseball
stadium.
