Penalty Kick Pushes Dolphins Past Bulldogs 2-1

The Gardner-Webb Bulldogs lost their conference opener on Saturday night, as Jacksonville took advantage of a penalty kick oppurtunity late in the game to win, 2-1.
The first half of play was a toss-up between the two teams.
Jacksonville pressured on offense, managing 10 shots, but only
scored once in the first 45 minutes. The goal came in the 38th
minute off the foot of Patrick Rundio. Rundio connected with a long
blast after a turnover by the Bulldogs on their side of the field.
Although
The fouls mounted up for Jacksonville in the second half. The
Dolphins racked up 13 fouls against the Bulldogs trying to protect
their one-goal lead. A Gardner-Webb foul late in the match resulted
in a penalty kick by Anton Axelsson, and Axwelsson got the shot
past GWU keeper T.J. Fox for a 2-0 lead for the home squad.
Richard Godfrey added his fourth goal of the season moments
later to trim the lead to 2-1, but Jacksonville's penalty shot
provided enough insurance to allow the Dolphins to escape with a
narrow league win.
Gardner-Webb will stay in Jacksonville until Sunday, when they
will face off against North Florida at 4:00 pm.
