Gardner-Webb drops 1-0 decision to North Florida

The Gardner-Webb Bulldogs dropped a 1-0 decision to the North
Florida Ospreys on Sunday afternoon. With the loss, Gardner-Webb
starts out 0-2 in conference play this season.
Gardner-Webb started out the match with a good offensive attack.
Five different Bulldogs had good looks within the first eight
minutes of the match, but all of those chances went unanswered.
The Bulldog's back line of defense also did a good job only
allowing one goal in the game. The back line limited the Ospreys
attacks with four offside penalties in the first half.
UNF scored the first goal of the match halfway through the first
half. The goal came off a cross into the box, and was redirected
into the left-side netting. The Ospreys carried the 1-0 lead going
into halftime.
Although the lead was only 1-0, it affected the Bulldogs style of
play. Gardner-Webb racked up three yellow cards in the first half
alone, and would finish with four overall. North Florida accounted
for two yellow cards.
The second half of play showed a lot of battling for possession
between the two teams. With both teams trying to impose their will,
more fouls began to mount up. There would be a total of twenty
seven fouls between the two teams for the match.
With all of the fouling, neither team could get its offense in sync
which caused the second half to go scoreless. The lone goal in the
first half proved to be enough and gave the Ospreys a 1-0 victory
over the Bulldogs.
Gardner-Webb went 0-2 this weekend and starts the A-Sun conference
with a two game losing streak. The Bulldogs are back in action this
Friday against Belmont. The game is scheduled to start at 7pm at
Varsity Field.
