CULLOWHEE, N.C. The Gardner-Webb women's
golf team took home an eighth-place finish at the Great Smokies
Intercollegiate after posting a 616 over the two-day event that was
hosted by Western Carolina.
Led by Katie Garahan's top-15 showing, the Bulldogs were able to
come close to finishing in the top 10. After shooting an opening
round five-over par 77, Garahan rebounded to tally a one-under par
71 on the final day for a combined 148 on the 5,290-yard course.
Garahan ended the tournament four-over par.
Not too far behind her were teammates Mackenzie Renner and Yayoi
Garcia. Each were among eight student-athletes that completed the
tournament eight-over par for 23rd place. Renner shot a 76-76 over
her two rounds while Garcia rebounded from a first-day 79 to go
one-over on the final 18 to earn her two-round score of 152.
Louisa Reed compiled a 165 (+21) for the tournament after
shooting an 86 the opening day and coming home with a 79. Fellow
rookie Liz Zouzal was five shots behind Reed, recording a 26-over
par 170. Zouzal shot an 84 the first round and an 86 over the final
18.
The Bulldogs will have about four weeks to regroup heading into
their last fall tournament Oct. 28-29. GWU will participate in the
Debary Intercollegiate, which is hosted by Western Carolina.
