
Laura Wilcox Picks Up Another Weekly Award

CHARLOTTE, N.C. Gardner-Webb newcomer Laura Wilcox was named the New Balance Freshman of the Week for matches played Oct. 6-12, as announced by the Big South Conference office today.
Wilcox opened up last week with a then-career high 17 kills against Davidson. She narrowly missed a double-double after adding nine digs in the contest. Against Charleston Southern, the rookie bested her career high with 20 kills to go along with six digs and four blocks (one solo, three assists) for 22.5 points in the match. At Coastal Carolina, Wilcox posted her third consecutive double-digit kills match by amassing 10 while hitting .350. She also added six digs and a block assist.
The Normal, Ill., native averaged 3.62 kills per set for the Bulldogs.
The Freshman of the Week honor marks her fourth-straight accolade and the fifth accolade she has garnered this season.
The Bulldogs return to action Tuesday night in the newly
renovated Paul Porter Arena for a 7 p.m., showdown with neighboring
UNC Asheville in a key Big South Conference match.
