Bulldogs Fall to Georgia Southern in Non-Conference Play, 1-4
October 17, 2008 | Men's Soccer
Statesboro, Ga. Freshman Richard Gray scored the lone goal for the Bulldogs midway through the first period to tie the match at 1-1, but the Eagles responded with three unanswered goals to take a 4-1 win Friday afternoon.
The Eagles wasted no time in their attack, scoring in the first five minutes of the match to take a quick 1-0 lead. Gardner-Webb responded later when freshman Richard Gray scored on a breakaway for his fourth goal of the season. Senior Ryan Snodgrass, making his first start back from injury, played a good ball up to Gray who placed it nicely past the Eagles' keeper to tie the match at 1-1.
Georgia Southern answered shortly after with a goal by B.J. Reine just before the half. Reine received a ball in the box from Joe Madigan, and stuffed the ball home to give his team a 2-1 lead heading into halftime.
Southern was able to connect on two more shots in the second half, while shutting out the Bulldogs despite hoisting nine shots.
Gardner-Webb will return to Big South action next Tuesday, October 21 at Liberty.| Individual Stats |
