Slesarev Victorious in First Round of ITA Mideast Regional Championships

Gardner-Webb #1 Evgeny Slesarev defeated Charlotte's Brad Clinard, 6-3, 6-0, to advance to the Round of 64 in the ITA Mideast Regional Championships.
"Evgeny moved well during the match", said Coach Mike Griffith. "He showed good patience and played a great match. Evgeny is off to a good start, and that is what you hope for as a coach."
Slesarev's next opponent is the 21st seeded Alex Ahlgren of ETSU. Slesarev sat out last season's match at ETSU, while Ahlgren picked up a win over Gardner-Webb's Grant VanRensburg, 6-4, 6-2.
Slesarev and Ahlgren will face off at 8:30 AM Saturday morning.
