Bulldogs Fall to Flames, 0-3

The Gardner-Webb Bulldogs (5-9, 4-2 BS) dropped their second match in conference play Tuesday night at Liberty University, 0-3. The Liberty Flames took an early first half lead and added two more goals, less than a minute apart, in the second half to improve their record to 8-5, 3-3 in the Big South.
The Flames wasted no time in their attack Tuesday night, scoring in the first four minutes of the match. Liberty's Joshua Boateng scored his 10th goal of the season after receiving a long pass into the box from Daniel McGarry and putting it past senior GK Dane Geraci.
Liberty added five more attempts on goal, as compared to two from Gardner-Webb, but neither team was able to break through for another goal and the first half ended with the Flames holding a one goal edge.
The Bulldogs didn't fair much better in the second half, only placing two shots on frame. On the other end, the Flames kept up their offensive attack by taking nine shots and connecting on two of them.
Juan Gusman and Boateng were both able to slip past the Bulldogs' defense in the 56th minute to propel Liberty to a quick 3-0 lead over Gardner-Webb. The Bulldogs couldn't seem to find an answer to the Flames' defense and Liberty was able to notch its fourth shutout of the season.
The Bulldogs will look to improve upon this performance on Sunday, October 26 at home vs. VMI. The Gardner-Webb athletics department, in association with men's soccer will honor the men's soccer seniors prior to the game at 6:30 p.m.
