Gardner-Webb Takes Fifth At Charleston Southern Fall Invitational
October 22, 2008 | Men's Golf
CHARLESTON, S.C. The Gardner-Webb men's team overcome a slow first round of the Charleston Southern Fall Invitational to take fifth in the 11-team field.
The Bulldogs' Ryan Bell finished a stroke behind winner Thomas Todd of Presbyterian. Bell held the lead going into the final round, but Todd's 66 allowed him to edge out Bell by a stroke. Bell finished the tournament with an even-par, 216.
Immu Korvenmaa narrowly missed a top-10 finish, ending up 11th after shooting a 225. Korvenmaa opened the tournament with a 72 and followed it up with a 73. However, his 80 on the final 18 holes dropped him out of the top 10.
Blake Palmer's 231 was good enough for a 24th-place tie. Palmer opened with an 80 but recovered in the second round, tallying a 73 before finishing with a 78.
Andrew Rickard tied for 33rd (235) while Scott Wheeler tied for 41st (239).
GWU returns to action Nov. 3-4 at the Hummingbird Intercollegiate, which is hosted by Western Carolina. It marks the last fall tournament of the year for the Bulldogs.
