Pair of Bulldogs Advance in ITA All-American Championships

Tulsa, OK – Junior Evgeny Slesarev and sophomore Andrew Veeder advance to the second round of the Pre-qualifier after the first day of action in the 2008 D'Novo/ITA Men's All American Championships. Gardner-Webb #1 Evgeny Slesarev downed Darren Walsh of SMU (7-5, 6-2), while Veeder received a first-round bye.
The Prequalifying Draw consists of 256 at-large selections; only 16 will advance to the Qualifying Draw. To put this in perspective, both Slesarev and Veeder will have to win three more matches just to advance to the Qualifying Draw.
The Qualifying Draw consists of 112 at-large selections and the 16 that advance from the Pre-Qualifying Draw. Players must win three rounds in this draw to advance to the Main Draw.
So, as of right now, both Bulldogs will need to win their next six matches over the next few days in order to make it to the Main Draw of the ITA Championships.
Their next matches are scheduled for Saturday. Slesarev will
face (30)Ionut Beleieu of Oklahoma at 8:30 a.m., while Veeder plays
a little later at 12:30 p.m. vs. Marquette's Dusan Medan.
