Pack Swarms Bulldogs in Non-conference Action, 4-0
October 05, 2008 | Men's Soccer
The Gardner-Webb men's soccer team gave up three-second half goals and fell to the Wolfpack, 4-0, Saturday night at the N.C. State Soccer Complex. The Wolfpack (3-6-1) used a pair of goals from Alan Sanchez in a span of just over one minute midway through the second half, and defeated the Bulldogs (3-7) with a 4-0 score for the second straight year.
The offense was limited in the first half, as both teams combined for just four shots. N.C. State was fortunate with one of its shots, scoring off a long shot from the left wing in the 21st minute to take a 1-0 lead. The Bulldogs were unable to capitalize on their opportunities in the first half and N.C. State held its 1-0 lead into halftime.
Gardner-Webb came out hot in the second-half rounding off three shots on goal within the first 15 minutes, but the Wolfpack goalkeeper was up to the challenge and saved all three shots.
Not long after, the Wolfpack went on the offensive and scored off another long from the wing off the foot of Alan Sanchez. Less than a minute later, Sanchez scored off a penalty kick to put the Pack up 3-0.
The Bulldogs put together several more opportunities, but to no avail. N.C. State put the game away with a goal in the 88th minute for their second straight 4-0 win over the Bulldogs.
The N.C. State goalkeeper played a great game as Gardner-Webb out-shot the Pack (8-7) but couldn't seem to find the back of the net.
The Bulldogs will try to get their offense back on track Wednesday, Oct. 8 as they welcome Big Conference foe Coastal Carolina to Greene-Harbison Stadium at 7 p.m.
