
Bulldogs Prepare For Copa Sparta Open

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. Twelve members of the Gardner-Webb wrestling team, in addition to assistant coach Daniel Elliott, will take part in the Copa Sparta Open in Puerto Rico over the school's fall break.
The competition will take place in Salinas, Puerto Rico. The Bulldogs will stay at the Puerto Rican Olympic Training Center while they prepare to compete. The tournament is slated to take place on Saturday.
At the national competition, there will be competitors stemming from all across the United States, Canada, Mexico, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Brazil, Argentina and Venezuela.
GWU's 12 competitors will compete in both the junior and senior divisions.
Redshirt-freshman Kyle Baird (60kg), redshirt-freshman Phillip Goodwin (66kg), redshirt-sophomore Thomas Knapp (74kg), freshman Alex Medved (74kg), freshman Ryan Medved (66kg), freshman Travis Porter (97kg) and redshirt-freshman Dave Sweeney (74kg) will all compete in the junior division.
Redshirt-junior David Pelsang (74kg), redshirt-junior Dustin Porter (120kg), senior Cortney Roberts (60kg), redshirt-junior Rob Tate (66kg) and Elliott (66kg) will all be competing in the senior division.
