
GWU Women Take Seventh, Men Finish Eighth At New Balance Big South Cross Country Championships

LYNCHBURG, Va. The Gardner-Webb cross country teams finished seventh and eighth, respectively, at the New Balance Big South Cross Country Championships Saturday afternoon.
The GWU women amassed 187 points in the race while Coastal Carolina
took the title with 54 total points. The Bulldog men were eighth
with 224 points. Liberty won the men's title with 28 points.
The GWU women's team was led by Carrie Minard, who placed 29th on the 5k course with a time of 20:28.24. Senior Beth Long was just behind her, taking 36th after crossing in 20:52.39.
Laura Scott's time of 2:06.41 was good enough for 38th
in the postseason event. Abby Callahan, who is coming off an
injury, recorded a time of 21:32.39 for 40th place.
Allye Littrell and Diana Palka were 44th and
45th, respectively. Littrell was able to complete the
course in 22:02.39 while Palka was three seconds behind her.
Silleman was just one second behind her for 46th place. Silleman officially finished in 22:08.07.
Bree Tharpe posted a time o f22:29.59 while Ellie Glunk crossed the line in 23:22.50.
Rookie Nick Kelly was the top GWU men's finisher, crossing the finish line of the 8k course in 28:16.54.
Tim Israel's time of 28:57.33 allowed him to cross in
38th place. Charlie Steinke and newcomer Jason Wenzel
were 49th and 51st, respectively, while
fellow first-year competitor Jacob Hoyle took 53rd.
Steinke had a time iof 29:45.54 while Wenzel finished in 30:05.04.
Hoyle recorded a time of 30:30.31.
Justin Keziah scored points for head coach Brian Baker's team after having a time of 31:06.86 for 54th place in the 72-person field. Erin Goodrum was 56th with a time of 31:47.44.
Both teams will look to get healthy before competing at the NCAA Regional Champinships Nov. 15 in Clemmons, N.C.
