
Bulldogs Tied For Eighth At Hummingbird Intercollegiate

CULLOWHEE, N.C. After the first round of the Hummingbird Intercollegiate, head coach Tee Burton's squad finds itself in a three-way tie for eighth place in the 14-team tournament.
The Bulldogs posted a first-round tally of 299, +15. Leading the way is UCF, which fired a three-under par 281.
Leading the way for GWU was a pair of student-athletes in Immu Korvenmaa and Blake Palmer. Each managed to shoot a two-over par, 73 on the 6,767 yard course. Korvenmaa opened the front nine with a 40, but came back to hit a 33 on the back nine for his 73. Palmer played each nine in a near identical fashion, shooting a 36 to open the tournament before coming home in a 37. Each is tied for 16th.
Two shots back is Scott Wheeler. Wheeler is currently tied with six other participants for 38th place. Wheeler notched a 37-38 on the course, totaling his 75.
Newcomer Kristopher Gray opened the tournament with a 40 on the front nine, but managed to play slightly better on the back of the course, hitting a 38 over the final nine holes for a seven-over par, 78. Gray is tied for 56th.
Ryan Bell recorded an eight-over par, 79, for his opening round. Bell went out in 40, but came home in 39.
The Bulldogs will look to chase down the top of the field
tomorrow in the final round of the Hummingbird Intercollegiate.
