Laura Wilcox Picks Up Big South Accolade

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Gardner-Webb freshman Laura Wilcox earned the New Balance Freshman of the Week award from the Big South Conference, as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
Wilcox, a native of Normal, Ill., garnered her sixth award from the Big South Conference this season.
A middle blocker, Wilcox posted 34 kills over the two matches that the Gardner-Webb team played last week. Both five-set affairs, Wilcox averaged 3.40 kills per set.
She began her week with a career-high 22 kills against Radford. In the match, Wilcox chipped in four blocks and one dig.
The following afternoon, Wilcox had 12 kills to go along with two digs and one block against Liberty.
Wilcox will look to lead the Bulldogs in three matches this
week, the first of which is tomorrow night at UNC Asheville. The
match is slated for a 7 p.m. start. This weekend, GWU will play its
final two home matches of the season – the first is against
Coastal Carolina at 7 p.m., on Friday evening before hosting
Charleston Southern Saturday at 2 p.m.
