CHARLOTTE, N.C. The Big South office has announced its yearly awards and two Gardner-Web student-athletes picked up all-conference honors Wednesday.
Senior Angie Harvey earned first-team all Big South Conference honors while rookie Megan Tremblay was named to the all-freshman team.
Harvey, a four-year starter in the midfield, garnered first-team honors after playing in 13 matches while starting 11. She leads the team in goals (3), assists (3), points (9) and game-winning goals (1). Harvey, who has provided the Bulldogs with a steady force in the midfield, also converted on both of GWU's penalty kick opportunities this season.
The award for Harvey marked the third time she has picked up all-conference honors in her career. During her rookie campaign, Harvey earned a spot on the A-Sun all-freshman team. Last season, Harvey was tabbed first-team all-conference during the Bulldogs' last season in the A-Sun.
Harvey was also named academic all-conference Wednesday evening.
Tremblay was GWU's lone award winner on the all-freshman team. She played in 17 matches while starting eight on the season. Six of her starts were against Big South opponents.
Tremblay knocked home one goal this year, with it coming at Campbell on Sept. 22. She has been a force in the midfield all year and has proven she will be a formidable player for the next three seasons for head coach Kevin Mounce's team.
The Bulldogs earned the eighth seed at the Big South Conference
Women's Soccer Championship. The squad will take on top-seeded
Coastal Carolina at 4 p.m., Thursday at High Point in the
quarterfinals.
