BOILING SPRINGS Aaron Linn led four players in double
figures with 17 points and Gardner-Webb cruised to an 85-51 win
over Ferrum Saturday at Paul Porter Arena.
Gardner-Webb (4-6) shot 53.3 percent (16-of-30) in the first half
to lead 44-22 at the break. Linn had 13 of his points by
intermission, and was joined in double digits through the first 20
minutes by Grayson Flittner (11 points) and Auryn MacMillan (10
points).
An 8-0 run to start the second half put the Runnin' Bulldogs up 30
points, 52-22 with 17:27 to play and the game was over. No
Gardner-Webb starter was in the game by the 10-minute mark, and the
reserves kept up the pace for the final margin.
Linn made 6-of-11 shots from the floor and had four assists, three
rebounds and contributed to a team season-high 14 blocked shots
with four swats of his own. MacMillan finished with 16 points, 11
rebounds and six blocked shots in just 19 minutes and Flittner had
an efficient 14 points and five assists on 4-of-8 shooting (3-for-4
from downtown).
C.J. Hailey (Charlotte, N.C. / Harding HS) came off the bench to
net a career-high 14 points on 4-of-7 shooting and freshman
standout Joshua Henley pulled down a career-high 21 rebounds off
the bench in just 21 minutes (two points).
Gardner-Webb held a sizeable 55-38 edge on the glass, and had 22
assists on 28 made baskets.
Ferrum (6-4) struggled for much of the afternoon on both ends,
shooting just 28.6 percent in the first half and 30.0 percent for
the game (21-of-70). Derek Mitchell led the way with 16 points and
10 rebounds, but was just 7-of-17 from the floor. Jerrell Wade came
off the bench to contribute 15 points and Keith Crump overcame a
5-for-20 shooting day to finish with 12 markers.
