Men's Tennis Travels to Coastal this Weekend
February 21, 2008 | Men's Tennis
The Gardner-Webb men's tennis team will travel to Myrtle Beach,
S.C. this Saturday to take on Coastal Carolina at the City of
Myrtle Beach Tennis Facility.
Scouting Coastal: The Chanticleers enter Saturday's match with a
4-5 record on the season...Coastal started off the season by
winnning four straight, but has dropped its last five matches,
including a loss to Wofford (3-4)...The Chanticleers are 0-1
against Atlantic Sun teams as they dropped a match to Campbell
(2-5)...Coastal has five winning records at the 2-6 singles spots,
and its No.1 spot is 4-5 on the season...They also have winning
records in all three doubles spots, their highest, 7-2, at the No.
2 spot...The Chanticleers are 4-3 at home; 0-2 on the road.
Weather: As of right now, there is a 50% chance of rain and
thunderstorms in Myrtle Beach this Saturday. Hopefully the weather
will hold out so these two teams can play.
Gardner-Webb: The Bulldogs will have their work cut out for them
seeing as the Chanticleers fair better at home than on the road.
Doubles has given the Dogs trouble in the past; something
they cannot afford to lose on Saturday.
Gardner-Webb also needs the middle of its line-up to do some damage
on the courts. The No. 3 and 4 spots are 2-7 so far this season,
however, they have stepped up as of late and will need to carry
that momentum into their later matches.
The Bulldogs have won five out of their last six, and a win this
Saturday will put the Dogs at .500 for the first time this
season. It will also improve their mark to 1-1 against the Big
South.
