Lady Bulldogs Take One of Three in Florida to Begin Conference Play

The Gardner-Webb women's tennis team starts out 1-2 in the A-Sun
following its Florida road trip. The ladies' first stop came at
Stetson where they dropped a tough match 1-6 to the Hatters, but
quickly turned things around with a 5-2 win at Florida Gulf Coast
two days later. The "Dogs ended their trip with a 1-6 loss at North
Florida.
Junior Amy Beavers was the only Bulldog to gain a win at Stetson as
she took down Natalie Gorham 6-2, 6-2. The win extends Beavers'
streak to three matches and gives her five out of her last six.
After falling to Stetson, the ladies headed to Florida Gulf Coast
where they won in dominating fashion.
The Ospreys started off 1-0 by taking two of three from the
Bulldogs in doubles. The team of Monica Walser and Allie Mills won
at the three spot, 8-4, over Brett Kinley and Leah Johnson of
FGCU.
The Bulldogs turned it around in singles play by taking five of the
six matches.
Laura Kriett picked up a good win at the one spot over FGCU's Maria
Braniecka 1-6, 6-3, 6-3, while her doubles partner Rita Gouveia
also picked up a three-set victory 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 at the three
spot.
Senior Monica Walser defeated FGCU's Jordan Vaughn in straight sets
7-5, 7-6 and her doubles partner Allie Mills also won in sriaght
sets 6-4, 6-0.
Amy Beavers extended her win streak to four after taking down
Florida Gulf Coast's Leah Johnson 6-3, 6-0 at the five spot.
Beavers further extended her streak to five matches when she took
down North Florida's Victoria Krook 7-6 (5), 6-7 (4), 10-4. Beavers
ended the road trip with a 3-0 record at the five spot for the
Bulldogs, who went 1-2 as a team. She also was the only one to win
at North Florida as the team fell 1-6.
