
Bulldogs Take Third At First Market Bank Intercollegiate

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. The Gardner-Webb men's golf team turned in a superb effort in the 19-team field, recording a third-place finish at the First Market Bank Intercollegiate, which was hosted by William & Mary.
The Bulldogs were led by Blake Palmer's fifth-place performance, helping the squad turn in a two-round score of 585, which was 16 strokes back of first-place Francis Marion.
On the 6,809 par-71 course, Palmer turned in a first-round par before shooting one-over, 72, for a combined 143, tying Florida Gulf Coast's Daniel Mazziotta for fifth.
Joshua Philbeck was not too far behind Palmer, connecting on a three-over, 74, before hunkering down on the final 18 holes to notch a one-over, 72 for a 146 total. Philbeck tied for 17th in the tournament.
Two Bulldogs tied for 25th, Immu Korvenmaa and Andrew Rickard. Rickard shot scores of 73-75 to finish with a 148 while Korvvenmaa was evenly paced, shooting a 74 on both days.
Geordie Hagerman shot a 75 both rounds, tying for 41st while posting a two-round total of 150.
GWU finished ahead of A-Sun foe Florida Gulf Coast, which took fourth. GWU also bested future Big South member Liberty, which took seventh in the field.
The Bulldogs return to action March 31-April 1 when they take
part in the Larry Nelson Invitational, which is hosted by A-Sun
member Kennesaw State.
