ST. LOUIS, MO. Eddie McCray scored four
quick points in the consolation bracket against No. 10 Scott Ervin,
but was unable to pick up the victory at the NCAA Championships
Friday morning.
Ervin lost the match by a score of 22-4 to the Appalachian State
grappler. He ends the season at 10-5.
McCray started off strong, scoring an early takedown on Ervin
after pushing forward and trying to be the aggressor.
The strategy worked quickly, with McCray taking a chance and
recording a two-point near fall of Ervin, going up 4-0.
However, Ervin battled back, recording a reversal right after
the near fall by McCray. Ervin then grinded out four consecutive
three-point near falls against McCray before picking up a two-point
near fall before the end of the first period. Ervin had a 16-4
advantage after one.
The match ended in the second period as Ervin scored a takedown,
and a three-point near fall while adding on one point for riding
time for the final score and technical fall victory.
McCray won his opening round match at the NCAA Championships
before dropping the next two to end his season.
