Bulldogs Blank Erskine 7-0 in Men's Tennis Action

The Gardner-Webb men's tennis team proved to be too much for
Erskine on Thursday afternoon as the Bulldogs dominated both
doubles and singles action, not dropping a single match en route to
shutting out the Flying Fleet with a 7-0 win.
With the victory the Bulldogs improve to 9-9, only one win away
from matching last season's win total.
The Bulldogs came away with the doubles point as they won at all
three positions. GWU's duo of Taylor Ferrier and Carlos Quijano won
at the No. 1 spot, defeating Erskine's Jacob Gregory and Johnny
Holland 8-4, while Ryan Bernthal and Jamie Lawlor dropped Fabio
Ciarrocchi and Ryan Miller of Erskine at the No. 2 slot, 8-3.
Gardner-Webb's team of Joshua Ray and Grant Van Rensburg extended
their streak to 3-0 as they took down Simeon Harrar and Aaron
Gregory 8-1 at the No. 3 slot.
In singles action the Bulldogs took all six matches as a number of
performers shined at new positions.
Freshman Carlos Quijano got back on the winning road as he took
down Ciarrocchi at the No. 1 slot 6-1, 6-0. Grant Van Rensburg
followed Quijano with a 6-1, 6-0 win of his own over Erskine's
Harrar at the two slot.
Taylor Ferrier improved his record to 2-0 at the three slot with a
6-1, 6-1 victory over J. Gregory, while Jamie Lawlor did the same
at the four slot with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Holland.
Joshua Ray went to 2-0 at the five spot after taking down Miller
6-1, 6-2, and Ryan Bernthal followed at the six slot with a 6-1,
6-2 win over A. Gregory.
The Bulldogs will look to match their win record from last season
on Friday, March 21, as they take on Longwood at 2 p.m.
