Bulldogs Blank Bisons in Women's Tennis Action

The Gardner-Webb women's tennis team swept the competition as
they defeated the Bisons on Lipscomb 7-0 on Thursday afternoon. The
victory moves the ladies to 6-10 overall and 3-4 in the A-Sun.
The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after taking all
three of the doubles matches.
The tandem of Laura Kriett and Monica Walser took down Lipscomb's
team of Kara Jackson and Claire Landry 8-2 at the No. 1 slot, while
Amy Beavers and Rita Gouveia made short work of the Bison duo of
Olivia Ellis and Raphaela Jann with an 8-0 win at the No. 2 slot.
GWU's No. 3 team of Jenny Gomez and Allie Mills also notched a win,
with an 8-1 effort over Caitlin Khouri and Mariana Rangel.
A big story in the making is Amy Beavers' win streak. With her
(6-0, 6-0) win at the No. 4 slot on Thursday afternoon, Beavers
moves to 13-2 and her streak improves to nine in a row (6-0 in the
A-Sun with one DNF coming against Jacksonville).
Laura Kriett also reached double digits in her singles win column
as she took down Raphaela Jann (6-3, 6-3) at the No. 1 slot. The
win gives Kriett a 10-5 record at the No. 1 slot on the season (4-2
in the A-Sun with one DNF coming against Jacksonville).
Jenny Gomez notched a (6-3, 6-2) win at the No. 2 slot over
Lipscomb's Kara Jackson to move to 8-8 on the season.
Both Rita Gouveia and Monica Walser moved to 7-9 on the season with
wins at the No. 3 and 4 slots. Gouveia downed Caitlin Khouri (6-2,
6-1) at the No. 3 slot, while Walser defeated the Bison's Claire
Landry [6-1, 7-6 (7-3)] at the No. 4 slot.
Allie Mills improved to 4-7 this season with a (6-0, 6-0) win over
Britt Kuertz at the No. 6 slot.
After the match Coach Corn commented, "Our girls came out ready to
play today. We had a lot of intensity and it showed in their
matches. It was a good win for us and hopefully we can keep up this
kind of play in the future."
The Lady Bulldogs will take a day off before hosting Belmont on
Saturday, March 29th. The match is scheduled to begin at 10 am at
the Webb Tennis Complex.
