
Gardner-Webb Releases 2008 Women's Soccer Schedule

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. The Gardner-Webb athletics department, in conjunction with head women's soccer coach Kevin Mounce, has announced its 2008 schedule.
Highlighting the schedule for the Bulldogs, who will be in their first season of the Big South, are seven home games.
After an exhibition at nearby Limestone on Aug. 16, GWU will open its slate with a home contest against Georgia Southern on Aug. 22. Two days later, the Bulldogs will travel to The Citadel for their first road match of the year, which will begin at 1 p.m.
GWU will look to pick up a victory over a tough UNC-Wilmington squad, which downed Mounce's team a year ago in the season opener in Wilmington, N.C. The Bulldogs will take on the Seahawks at 7 p.m., on Aug. 29 in front of the Red and Black faithful. The match will be the first of two consecutive home games for GWU as it plays host to Atlantic Sun Conference member Florida Gulf Coast on Sept. 6 at 2 p.m.
Three days later, the Bulldogs travel to Appalachian State before making their only neutral site appearance during the regular season. GWU will partake in the USC Upstate tournament on Sept. 12 and Sept. 14. On the first day, the Bulldogs will square off against the Phoenix of Elon before tangling with the Spartans on the second day.
The USC Upstate contest marks the first of five consecutive road matches for GWU. During a two-week stretch, beginning Sept. 14, the Bulldogs will play away from the friendly confines of their home stadium. GWU will travel to East Carolina on Sept. 18.
Their third straight road game will be the Big South opener as Mounce's team heads to Charleston, S.C., to take on Charleston Southern on Sept. 20. On Sept. 22, GWU steps out of conference play to renew an old A-Sun rivalry as it travels to Buies Creek to square off against Campbell. The last two times the teams have met, the Bulldogs have come away with a 1-0 victory.
GWU returns to Big South competition on Sept. 27 when it makes the journey back to South Carolina to tangle with Coastal Carolina.
Bulldog fans will get to see their first Big South action at home on Oct. 1 as GWU hosts fellow conference newcomer Presbyterian in a 7 p.m. showdown. Fans will again be able to fill the stadium three days later, on Oct. 4, when the Bulldogs host UNC-Asheville at 2 p.m., in a contest the is also being recognized as the school's Alumni Day.
GWU will be able to rest for a few days as its next contest isn't until the team makes the short drive to Rock Hill, S.C., on Oct. 15 to face Winthrop.
The Bulldogs return home for matches against Liberty (Oct. 23) and Radford (Oct. 25). The 2 p.m., match against the Highlanders will also be Senior Day.
GWU concludes the regular season on the road for its final two games. The Bulldogs head to High Point, N.C., when they face the Panthers on Oct. 29 before going to Lexington, Va., to meet up with VMI on Nov. 2.
Mounce's team will take part in the Big South Tournament, which will be held on the campus of Coastal Carolina Nov. 6-9.
