Langley Wins Gold On Final Day Of Asics Winthrop Invitational

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Jerel Langley unleashed a powerful throw, establishing a meet record in the javelin on the final day of the Asics Winthrop Invitational, leading a strong charge of Bulldogs throughout the day.
Langley's winning throw of 58.16m (190'10") broke the meet record that he set in 2006. Teammate Justin O'Shields was eighth with a throw of 43.27m (141'11") while Adam Reed posted an effort of 42.95m (140'11"), taking ninth.
Jeremy Longshore earned the silver in the pole vault, clearing 4.60m (15'1"). Adam Reed boasted a seventh-place finish with a height of 4.15m (13'7.25").
Johnathon Rucker continued his solid weekend, taking fourth in the high jump, clearing 1.95m (6'4.75").
Matt Knippen posted a top-10 finish in the discus after throwing 42.90m (140'9"), taking ninth. Brandon Blanton recorded a mark of 32.10m (105'4") for a 21st-place finish.
Erin Goodrum crossed the line in 11th in the 800m after finishing in 1:57.95. Tim Israel was 12th in the 1,500m (4:10.39) while Charlie Steinke was 18th in the event (4:19.47).
On the women's side,
Brieanna Thompson garnered a fifth-place effort in the discus with
a school-record mark of 39.85m (130'9"). The mark bested the record
that Thompson previously held by five inches.
Sarah Wyszynski, making her first appearance of the outdoor season,
recorded a fifth-place performance in the javelin with a throw of
37.33m (122'6"). Teammate Ashley Hall was eighth with an effort of
31.70m (104').
In the running events, Beth Long crossed the line in 17th place for the 800m, finishing in 2:27.37. Bree Tharpe took 18th in the 1,500m with a time of 5:35.48.
The quartet of Abby Callahan, Beth Long, Carrie Long and Kathleen Hlawatsch posted a solid seventh-place finish in the 4x400m.
The Bulldogs will return to action next weekend at the Clemson Invitational.
