
Gardner-Webb Takes Third At Lonnie D. Small Spring Classic

BUIES CREEK, N.C. The Gardner-Webb men's golf team overcame a high first-round score to amass the lowest total on the final round, placing the squad third in a deep field at the Lonnie D. Small Spring Classic.
The host Campbell Camels won the tournament while Elon took second. Gardner-Webb was third after shooting a 304-285 over the two rounds.
Leading the way was Joshua Philbeck, who shot a two-round total of +3, 144. He shot an opening round 75 before coming back to fire a three-under par, 69, over the final 18 to tie for sixth.
Immu Korvenmaa shot a first-day score of +4, 76, before finishing in a tie for 23rd due to a one-over par, 73. He combined to shoot a 149.
Tied with Korvenmaa was Andrew Rickard. Rickard recorded an opening-round 79 before firing a GWU-low two-under par, 70, over the final 18 holes for a 149.
Blake Palmer tied for 28th (77-73, 150) and Scott Wheeler tied for 40th (76-77, 153), rounding out the Bulldogs' field.
GWU will take to the links March 17-18 at the First Market Bank Intercollegiate, which is hosted by William and Mary.
