
Bulldogs Claim Third At Larry Nelson Invitational

BRASELTON, Ga. Led by two top-10 finishes, the Gardner-Webb men's team garnered a third-place finish at the Larry Nelson Collegiate Invitational, which was hosted by A-Sun foe Kennesaw State.
GWU was third in the field of 14 after shooting 57 over par for the tournament. The Owls won the event, shooting 26 over par while Campbell was second, recording a score of 48 over par. The Bulldogs bested conference foe Mercer, which took fourth by shooting a 61 over par. GWU also finished higher than Belmont (seventh), Jacksonville (ninth) and Lipscomb (14th).
Blake Palmer and Joshua Philbeck each notched a three-round tally of 222, finishing nine over par. The duo tied for ninth at the competition. Both golfers improved their play over the tournament, with Palmer recording scores of 76-74-72 for his total. Philbeck started off slow, but put together the best round of any golfer in the field. After shooting an 81-73 over the first 36 holes, Philbeck posted a low-round of 68.
Andrew Rickard tied for 34th with a three-round score of 234, finishing 21 over par. After shooting an 81 to open play, he was able to get his scores in the 70's for the final two rounds, connecting for a 75-78.
Immu Korvenmaa was just one shot behind Rickard, earning a 36th-place finish. He shot a 22-over par, 235, for the invitational. Korvenmaa posted scores of 81-76-78.
Geordie Hagerman's 24-over par, 237, put him in a tie for 41st. Hagerman had a solid opening-round score of 77. He shot a 79-81 over the final 36 holes of play.
The Bulldogs return to action on Apr. 9, when they partake in
the University Cup. The event is an all day affair that is to be
hosted by the Mimosa Hills CC in Morganton, N.C.
