Lady Bulldogs Down UNC-Asheville In Women's Tennis Action

The Gardner-Webb women's tennis team picked up their seventh win
of the season on Tuesday afternoon, as they came back to beat the
Bulldogs of UNC-Asheville 4-3 in non-conference action.
Once again the GWU Lady Netters fell behind 1-0 early, as they
dropped all three doubles bouts to lose the doubles point to
Asheville.
In singles action, the Lady Bulldogs found themselves in a dogfight
as two of the six contests went three sets.
Sophomore Laura Kriett won easily, taking down UNC-A's Leslie Smith
(6-1, 6-2) at the No. 1 slot. With the win, Kriett's winning streak
is now at six straight at the No. 1 slot.
Junior Jenny Gomez bounced back from a three set loss on Saturday,
to defeat Louise Bottomley of UNC-A in three sets (5-7, 6-2, 6-0)
at the No. 2 spot. The win pushes Gomez to 9-8 overall at the No. 2
slot.
Fellow classmate Amy Beavers continued her winning streak, pushing
it to eleven straight, as she dropped the Bulldogs' Nicole Schon
(6-4, 6-2) at the No. 4 slot.
Also winning for the Bulldogs was senior Monica Walser, who won in
straight sets (6-3, 6-2) over Whitney Abbott of UNC-A.
Freshman Rita Gouveia had a tough match at the No. 3 slot, falling
in three sets (3-6, 6-1, 4-6) to UNC-A's Stephanie Schon.
With the win the Lady Bulldogs improve to 7-11 on the year.
The Lady Bulldogs will return to A-Sun conference play this Friday,
April 4, when they will play USC-Upstate in Spartanburg, S.C.
