Gardner-Webb Takes Home 11 Titles; Carrie Long Wins Two At Radford Invitational

RADFORD, Va. – Rookie Carrie Long led the pack of Bulldogs that brought back 11 event titles to Gardner-Webb Saturday afternoon at the Radford Invitational.
Long posted a season-best time of 26.65 en route to her winning
time in the 200m. The two-sport student-athlete also shared the
pole vault title with fellow vaulter Kelly Bridges. Each cleared
3.35m. Merissa Hawkins was third in the pole vault while Meg Barrow
was fifth.
Barrow improved on her finish by running past the field as she took home the 100m crown in a time of 13.52. It also marked the first time during the outdoor season that she had run the event.
Elizabeth Maxwell, who has continually improved over her four years on campus, posted the winning mark of 48.01m in the hammer throw. She also notched a third-place finish in the discus with a throw of 38.07m.
Kayla Morgan won the 100m hurdles event by crossing in 15.59 seconds. She also took home silver in the long jump with a leap of 5.48m and in the high jump after clearing 1.50m. Teammate Victoria Argus was third in the long jump (5.21m) and fourth in the high jump (1.45m).
Junior Sarah Wyszynski came in a close second in the javelin with a heave of 40.14m. Ashley Hall won the bronze with a throw of 32.83m.
Beth Long grabbed a second-place finish in the 800m (2:24.34). Kathleen Hlawatsch earned the bronze in the 400m with a time of 1:08.80. Caryn Daane was fourth in the shot put (12.66m) and hammer throw (41.42m). Brieanna Thompson was fifth in the discus (35.64m).
On the men's side, Jerel Langley recorded another outstanding throw in the javelin. His winning effort went 60.77m. Adam Reed was third with a mark of 47.94m.
Matt Knippen posted the top mark in the shot put with a toss of 15.69m. Bryant Davis continued the Bulldogs' string of winning ways by claiming the top honor in the long jump with an effort of 6.78m.
Jeremy Longshore, who has had an impressive spring season thus far, cleared 4.75m en route to his title. Reed won the silver by clearing 4.45m.
Two-sport standout Dobson Collins won the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.41 while Paul Steinke won the 400m hurdles event in a time of 55.59. Johnathan Rucker was second, finishing in 55.78.
Rucker, Collins and Keziah all took home silver medals for the day. Rucker was second in the high jump (1.85m) while Collins was in the 100m dash (10.70) and Keziah was runner-up in the 400m (56.31).
Knippen continued his solid day by taking third in the discus with a mark of 41.66m. Brandon Blanton posted a top-five effort with a performance of 35.15m.
Erin Goodrum was fifth in the 800m (1:56.87) while Tim Israel also placed fifth in the respective 1,500m. Israel crossed in 4:03.34.
The Bulldogs will get back in action on May 1 at the Liberty Twilight Meet.
