May 06, 2008 | Women's Golf
MACON, Ga. Rookie Courtney Meyer picked up the last award that will ever be given to a Gardner-Webb women's golf team member by the Atlantic Sun Conference, as announced by the league's office Tuesday morning.
Meyer, a native of Rennselaer, Indiana, earned A-Sun All-Freshmen Team honors for her outstanding play during her inaugural campaign. During the conference tournament, Mayer tied for 20th with a three-round tally of 246.
At the Larry Nelson Invitational, she led the Bulldogs with a three-round 236, which was good enough for 17th. Meyer's top finish on the season was a 12th-place performance at the rain-shortened Fighting Camel Spring Classic. There, she shot a 78. The two-day event was cut short by a full day because of the weather.
For the year, Meyer participated in five spring tournaments and three fall events. She helped guide head coach Tee Burton's young Bulldogs' squad to a seventh-place finish at the A-Sun Championship. GWU had four juniors and two rookies on the squad this year.
With everyone returning, the Bulldogs will look to make a strong
showing in the Big South Conference next year.
