BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. Head golf coach Tee Burton, in conjunction with the Gardner-Webb athletics department, has announced the signing of Kristopher Gray and Brian Horton, who will each enroll at the school this fall.
Gray is a 5-7 right hander from Newcastle, England. He attended Queen Elizabeth High School and brings tremendous experience to the already deep golf team.
Gray was the 2007 Northumberland Under-21 Strokeplay champion. He was also named a Regular Northumberland County Player in 2007 and 2008. During the 2007 season, he also won the 2007 Northumberland Schools championship.
Horton is a 6-1 golfer with a right-handed swing as well. A native of nearby Spartanburg, S.C., Horton attended Boiling Springs High School.
Horton, a four-year letterwinner, brings championship experience with him as he won the 2007 Spartanburg Junior County Amateur title. A two-year all-region selection, Horton also garnered all-area honors. During his senior campaign, Horton won the Trojan Invitational while finishing second at the TW Memorial and the Spring Valley Invitational. He also qualified for the state championship, where he finished ninth.
The duo joins the Bulldogs' golf team that finished fifth in its
final year of Atlantic Sun Conference competition. GWU moves into
the Big South Conference on July 1. They become the first signees
on a team that also includes three seniors, two juniors, three
sophomores and a redshirt freshman.
