
GWU Women Claim Second in WCU Cross Country Open

Cullowhee, N.C. The women's cross country team opened its season with a second place finish in the Western Carolina Open Friday evening. Seven of the GWU women finished in the top 20 for a total time of 1:04:44.81.
Junior Abby Callahan led GWU with a fifth-place finish coming in with a time of 12:33.
Senior Carrie Minard finished in seventh position, just three seconds behind Callahan. The GWU duo of Laura Scott and Beth Long put two more Bulldogs in the top 12 by finishing 11th and 12th, respectfully.
Sophomore Diana Palka finished 17th with a time of 13:24.07, Senior Rebecca Silleman came in 19th with a time of 13:28.88, and GWU freshman Elizabeth Glunk rounded out the top 20 with a time of 13:38.26.
Junior Allye Littrell finished 25th with a time of 13:54.09, while sophomore Lia Hudak and freshman Cherish Richardson finished up at 14:19.
As for the men, they finished fourth in their 5k run with a total time of 1:30:19.94. Gardner-Webb freshman Nick Kelly led the Runnin' Bulldogs with a time of 16:42.79, which was good enough for sixth place. Senior Justin Keziah finished 14th coming in just over 17 minutes.
Western Carolina claimed both first-place finishes in both the team and individual times. The Catamount men ran a time of 1:23:05.10 and the women ran a 1:01:09.32.
The Bulldogs return to action on Sept. 12, when they travel to Cary, N.C., to partake in the Adidas Wolfpack Invitational.
