Long And Maxwell Earn National Recognition

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Rising sophomore Carrie Long and recent graduate Elizabeth Maxwell have been named to the 2008 USTFCCCA Division I women's All-Academic Track and Field team.
The USTFCCCA announced that a record total of 468 student-athletes representing 140 Division I institutions composed the women's 2008 all-academic team.
Maxwell earned all-academic team honors her junior year after compiling a stellar GPA while garnering a trip to the 2007 NCAA East Regional in the shot put. This past season, Maxwell won yet another conference title, this one coming in the discus.
Maxwell finished her career with school records in the weight throw, shot put (indoor and outdoor), discus and hammer throw.
Long, a two-sport standout her freshman season, won the Atlantic Sun Conference crown in the pole vault which earned her a spot at the 2008 NCAA East Regional.
Long holds the school record in the outdoor pole vault (12'1.50") and is tied with rising senior Kelly Bridges for the program's best indoor vault (11'5.75").
The USTFCCCA honors Division I individuals for their academic and athletic achievements during the indoor and outdoor track and field seasons.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either the NCAA Division I Indoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard or the NCAA Division I Outdoor regional or nationally qualifying standard in their respective event.
On July 1, Gardner-Webb became an official member of the Big
South Conference.
