
Bulldogs Have Impressive Showing At 2008 Adidas Wolfpack Invitational

CARY, N.C. Abby Callahan and Nick Kelly's impressive finishes helped the Gardner-Webb cross country teams to two top-five performances at the 2008 Adidas Wolfpack Invitational at WakeMed Soccer Park.
The women's team took third place out of 12 teams while the GWU men's program recorded a fifth-place performance out of 13 squads.
Callahan was the Bulldogs' top performer, finishing in 15th place after crossing the line in 19:49. Teammate Carrie Minard, who took her running to a new level during last year's track season, placed 17th, running the course in 19:59.
Diana Palka and Laura Scott were 26th and 27th, respectively. Palka finished in 20:42 while Scott was just behind her after finishing in 20:44.
Senior Beth Long rounded out the top 30 competitors by finishing in 20:52. Rebecca Silleman was 36th, crossing the line in 21:29.
Kelly, a rookie, was the top finisher on the men's side. He was 20th in 16:56. Justin Keziah placed 32nd in a time of 17:32.
Tim Israel and Jacob Hoyle took 43rd and 44th, respectively. Israel crossed the line in 18:10 while Hoyle was five seconds behind him. Newcomer Jason Wenzel placed 49th with a time of 18:25.
Erin Goodrum and Paul Steinke rounded out the top seven competitors for the Bulldogs. Goodrum was 70th while Steinke finished 79th.
The Bulldogs return to action next Saturday when they travel to
Cullowhee, N.C., for the Catamount Classic.
