
Bulldogs Tied For 13th After First Day

CULLOWHEE, N.C. After the first day of play at the Great Smokies Women's Collegiate, which is hosted by Western Carolina, the Gardner-Webb golf team is tied for 13th after shooting an opening round 305.
Senior Katie Garahan posted a two-over par, 74, to lead the way for the Bulldogs. She is currently tied for 25th. Garahan shot a 38 on the front nine but came home with a team-best 36 on the back nine holes.
Dana Prozeller recorded a 38 on the first nine and shot the same thing after she made the turn, for her four-over par 76. Prozeller is tied for 44th.
Yayoi Garcia posted a five-over par, 77, on the day. She opened with a 36 before shooting a 41 on the final nine holes.
Mackenzie Renner shot identical 39's on the front and back nine, for a six-over par, 78. Renner is currently tied for 68th.
Reigning Big South Player of the Week Courtney Meyer tallied an 81 after the first 18 holes of play. She opened with a 42 before recovering with a 39 on the final nine holes of the day.
The host Catamounts of Western Carolina lead the 21-team field after shooting an opening-day 284. Big South foe Winthrop is sixth (298) while Radford is tied for 13th (305) and High Point (310) is 19th.
The Bulldogs return to the course tomorrow morning for the final
day of competition.
