
Bulldogs Finish 14th At Great Smokies Women's Collegiate

CULLOWHEE, N.C. The Gardner-Webb women's golf team finished in 14th place at the Great Smokies Women's Collegiate, but improved its team score by three strokes from day one.
Host Western Carolina won the tournament with a two-day score of 578 while the Bulldogs finished with a two-day tally of 607.
Katie Garahan led head coach Tee Burton's squad with a two-round total of 150, which is six over par. She finished tied for 32nd.
Dana Prozeller's 152 was good enough for 47th after shooting back-to-back 76's on the 5,922 yard course.
Sophomore Courtney Meyer and Yayoi Garcia each notched a 154, tying for 63rd. Meyer shot a team-best 73 for the day after hitting an opening-round 81 yesterday.
Mackenzie Renner improved her score from the first day, posting a 77 after yesterday's 78. Her 155 was just a stroke behind Meyer and Garcia, putting Renner in a tie for 73rd.
The top Big South school at the tournament was Winthrop, which took fifth with a 589. GWU finished ahead of Radford (16th 611) and High Point (20th 625). There were 22 schools that took part in the competition.
The Bulldogs return to action Sept. 19-21 when they take part of the Sea Trail Intercollegiate, which is hosted by Elon.
