
Wilcox Garners Big South Freshman Of The Week Honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. Gardner-Webb newcomer Laura Wilcox was named the Big South's New Balance Freshman of the Week, as announced by the league's office earlier today for matches played Sept. 15-21.
Wilcox, a middle blocker from Normal, Ill., recorded 20 kills, 17 digs and averaged 2.22 kills per set in three matches for the Bulldogs. She highlighted her week with 11 kills and a .429 hitting percentage against Duke on Sept. 20. Wilcox added four blocks and an ace on the week, marking the second time this season she earned the Big South honor.
Against Delaware, Wilcox posted eight kills and seven digs to go along with a solo block and a block assist. She had seven digs and two block assists against the College of Charleston before her outstanding performance against the Blue Devils.
For the third time this year, Wilcox earned all-tournament team honors. She also earned the accolade at the Wildcat Classic and Runnin' Bulldog Classic earlier this season.
Wilcox and the Bulldogs open conference play Friday night at
Presbyterian. The match is slated to begin at 7 p.m. GWU opens home
conference play Saturday against Winthrop at 2 p.m.
