CONWAY, S.C. The Gardner-Webb women's soccer team was unable to overcome a 2-0 deficit early in the second stanza, eventually falling to Coastal Carolina by a 2-1 score in a Big South Conference match-up Saturday afternoon.
The Bulldogs now stand at 3-8 on the season and 1-1 in the Big South Conference. Coastal Carolina improves to 6-3 overall and 2-0 in league play.
Down 2-0 through 56 minutes of play, senior Angie Harvey put head
coach Kevin Mounce's team on the scoreboard with a goal at the

penalty kick. Harvey drilled the penalty kick past Amy Haggard,
bringing the Bulldogs within one.
However, GWU was unable to complete the comeback despite two
excellent opportunities in the final 33:03.
In the 73rd minute of play, rookie Dawn Rollyson fired
off a shot that was blocked as it headed toward the back of the
box. Two minutes later, junior Kasey Gladhill rocketed a shot that
looked destined to even the score, but it was gobbled up by
Haggard, leaving the score 2-1 in favor of the home squad.
For the match, Coastal Carolina totaled 19 shots to just 10 for the
Bulldogs. TGWU had just four shots on frame, allowing Haggard to
pick up three saves. Jessica Tuggle started in goal for the injured
Sarah Wyszynski and tallied six saves in the loss.
GWU was led by Harvey's goal as she and Megan Trembly each attempted a team-high two shots. Megan Reimer, Lauren Kelly, Stephanie Benshoof, Rollyson, Dara Goldstein and Gladhill each attempted one shot in the contest.
Coastal Carolina had control of much of the second half,
registering six corner kicks on the day, including five in the
second frame.
In the first half, the teams went scoreless as the home team picked
up 10 shots to six for the Red and Black. Each team registered two
