The Gardner-Webb women's swim program suffered its first loss of
the 2008-09 season, falling to the Blue Devils of Duke University
113-89.
Starting off the meet for the women, GWU's quartet of Rachel
Warkentin, Tory Bryant, Stepheni Stadnik and Corey Hughey notched a
first-place finish in the 200 medley relay, touching the wall in
1:47.30. The time is fourth-best in school history.
Elizabeth Ketterer was just off her personal-best in the 1,000
free, as she finished third with a time of 10:29.47. She now holds
the third and fourth-fastest times in school history.
In the 200 free, Warkentin took first, finishing in 1:55.93. Her
time places her seventh in the record books. Kelly Gueltig took
third, touching the wall at 1:57.12. Gueltig is now holds the
ninth-fastest time in this event.
Corey Hughey left everyone in the dust in the 50 free, finishing
first with a time of 24.07. Hughey now holds the second, third,
and sixth best times in school history. Veronica Chase took third
in the event, coming in with a time of 25.38.
Bryant placed fourth in the 400 IM with a time of 4:38.74, eighth
best in the record books.
Warkentin improved upon her personal-best with a time of 58.36 in
the 100 fly. She placed second in the event, but her time places
her fourth all-time in school history.
Gardner-Webb took a third place finish in the 100 free with Stadnik
touching the wall at 55.15.
A trio of Lady Dogs finished two-three-four in the 100 back.
Hughey led all with a time of 59.07. She was followed by Bryant
and Steadman who came in at 59.39 and 100.38 respectively.
Hughey's time places her fifth all-time, followed by Bryant with
sixth, and Steadman now holds the fourth and ninth-fastest times in
this event.
The Bulldogs placed third, fourth, and sixth in the 500 free.
Ketterer led the way for the Dogs as she touched the wall at
5:14.88.
Stadnik took home a top-three finish in the 100 breast with a time
of 1:09.27. Sarah Stokes took fifth with a time of 1:11.11.
The 400 free relay team took second place after compiling a time of
3:41.90. Case, Ketterer, Gueltig and Steadman combined for the
effort.
The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday, January 24th at
Davidson. The meet is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
