Lady Netters Fall at UNC, 7-0
January 25, 2009 | Women's Tennis
The Lady Bulldogs were unable to come away with an upset, as No. 18 North Carolina defeated Gardner-Webb 7-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Cone-Kenfield Indoor Tennis Complex in Chapel Hill, N.C.
The Tarheels managed to sweep both the singles and doubles play in route to a 7-0 victory. Senior Jenny Gomez fought hard at the No. 2 slot for the Bulldogs, but was unable to break serve in the second set and fell 6-3, 6-2 to UNC's Jelena Durisic.
Senior Amy Beavers and junior Laura Kreitt also had opportunities for upsets, as both were paired with nationally ranked opponents in singles action; however, neither was able to clinch a win.
Gardner-Webb will take the next couple of weeks off before returning to action on Feb. 7 at Georgia Southern.
